MIUT Marathon 42 km
Forty-two kilometres east across the ridges from Monte to the Fórum Machico — the only MIUT race that starts on the south side of the island, and the one with the best view of Funchal in its first hour. The course runs the levada paths and the high tracks above the capital, crosses the passes toward Portela and drops the last stretch into Machico on the same finish as everything else.
It is the marathon distance on terrain where a marathon takes far longer than a marathon, which is worth knowing before setting a target time. This page belongs to the 2026 edition.
