Along the shore of Loch Ness to the heart of Inverness

The Loch Ness Marathon is a point to point road marathon along the south side of Loch Ness to Inverness, held on Sunday 26 September 2027.

Established in 2002, the Loch Ness Marathon starts in the Highlands and ends in the city, and the organiser has set the 2027 race for Sunday 26 September. It is the centre of a festival of running in Inverness, with an Event Village and shorter races on the same weekend.

The marathon is point to point. Participants are taken by bus from the Inverness Ice Centre on Bught Drive to the start, between Whitebridge and Fort Augustus on the south side of Loch Ness. The course begins in moorland, then follows the south eastern shore of the loch, crosses the River Ness and finishes in the heart of Inverness. The organiser publishes an elevation profile on the course page, and it is worth studying before race day.

The festival also has the River Ness 10K with a corporate challenge, the River Ness 5K and the Wee Nessie for children under five, so a whole group can race the same weekend.

The organiser calls it one of the most scenic marathons in the world, with more than 6,000 runners from over 80 nations on the line. The Event Village is at Bught Park in Inverness, and the organiser publishes spectator and resident information for race weekend.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Loch Ness Marathon.
