A road marathon and half in Langdale

The Langdale Marathon and Half are road races on narrow, undulating lanes in the Lake District, starting and finishing at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel.

Lakeland Trails has set Saturday 16 October 2027 as the provisional date, and entry opens soon. Both races start together from the field in front of the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, and the finish is under the Lakeland Roads gantry.

The course is mostly undulating, narrow and winding single track road. Some sections are freshly surfaced, others have potholes and loose patches, particularly around Blea Tarn between miles 2 and 3. The roads are not closed to traffic, so participants need to take care. The half has three water stations and the marathon seven, and participants carry their own water or a cup.

The marathon has two cut-offs: at the New Dungeon Ghyll after 13.1 miles, 3 hours 30 minutes after the start, and at the Skelwith Bridge road junction after 21 miles, 5 hours 20 minutes after the start. The organiser encourages people to walk a bit and take in the views, while cheering the fastest runners just as loudly. Only bone conducting headphones are allowed, and dogs are not permitted on the course.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel serves food and drink through the day, with live music and the prize giving. Parking at the hotel is limited, so the organiser suggests parking in Ambleside and taking the 516 bus.

Livebib lets family and friends follow a participant live if that person chooses to share the position of the phone they carry. It is not the organiser's timing system, and official results always come from the organiser.
