Ultras and trail runs from Rothay Park

The Lakeland Trails Ultra brings a 100 km and a 55 km ultra, plus 23 km and 14 km trail runs, to Rothay Park in Ambleside in the Lake District.

Every race starts from Rothay Park on Saturday 10 July 2027. The 100k sets off at 00:01, the organiser's midnight start, with a 23 hour limit and a minimum age of 18. The 55k Challenge starts at 08:30 with 13 hours, the 55k Race at 09:30 with 12 hours, and the 14k and 23k both at 11:00, with 3 and 5 hours.

The 100k is self navigated until Patterdale, where it joins the 55k course. Courses are marked and marshalled by Lakeland Trails volunteers and run mostly on hard packed trails with the odd muddy section. 100k runners can leave a small bag at the Glenridding checkpoint, and everyone must leave Glenridding with at least 1 litre of water because of the long climb that follows. Compulsory kit applies to both ultras.

New for 2027, every 55k runner carries a live tracker, and all 100k runners are tracked by GPS. ITRA has given the 55k Race 3 points and the 100k 4, while the 55k Challenge earns none.

Spectators are welcome at the start and finish in Rothay Park, where the event village has local food, Pete Bland Sports, live music and the prize giving. There is no vehicle access to the park, so the bus into Ambleside is the easy option, and camping is available at Ambleside Football Club next to the park.
