A trail marathon around Kielder Water

The Kielder Marathon runs an almost entirely off-road course around Kielder Water in Northumberland, the largest man-made lake in northern Europe.

The Altra Kielder Marathon weekend is on 2 and 3 October 2027, organised by Events of the North, which founded the race in 2010. The 10K and a gravel duathlon are on the Saturday afternoon, with the 10K starting at 1:00pm, and the marathon is the finale on Sunday 3 October with a 10:15 start.

The marathon follows off-road paths around Kielder Water and through the forest. Runners must reach the Dam at about 17.25 miles by 3.45pm and Tower Knowe at about 19 miles by 4.00pm. The half marathon, part of the weekend since 2015, has its start on the Dam and a 4 hour limit. The 10K goes around the Bull Crag Peninsula.

The organiser bills it as Britain's Most Beautiful Marathon. Medals and goody bags go to all finishers, and prizes go to the top three men and women and the veteran age groups.

There is a free park and ride for runners from 7.30am, and spectators can buy a pass for £5 a day. The organiser asks runners to arrive at least 90 minutes before the start.
