Half marathon, Volkslauf and Kurzlauf by the Kieler Förde

The 39th Kiel.Lauf on Sunday 12 September 2027 offers a half marathon, a 10.2 km Volkslauf and a 5.1 km Kurzlauf through the centre of Kiel and along the Förde.

The organiser calls it the largest running event in northern Germany, with more than 10,000 participants across all races. The race centre is the Rathausplatz, where race numbers are handed out in the event tent and where changing tents stand behind it. The Kurzlauf starts first at 09:15 together with the 5.1 km school race, the Volkslauf follows at 09:45 and the half marathon closes the day with its start at 10:50.

The half marathon has been the final race of the day since 2003. Its 21.0975 km lead through the west of Kiel, past the Förde, through parks and along historic streets, on a flat course that works for a best time as well as for an enjoyable run. The 10.2 km Volkslauf is the biggest race of the day with around 4,000 participants on a loop through the city centre with views of the Förde. The 5.1 km Kurzlauf is aimed at newcomers and people returning to running.

Age limits apply: the half marathon is open to people born in 2011 or earlier, the Volkslauf to 2013 or earlier. Children run the Bambinilauf of about 0.7 km and two school races. The organiser expects the 2027 courses to stay as in 2026, but notes that building work can cause short notice changes.

For spectators, the half marathon course is closed until about 15:00, so plan on public transport or the Kiel parking guidance system. The Rathausplatz with its stage is where results and prize giving happen.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
