Javelina Jundred 100 Mile
A hundred and sixty-one kilometres on rolling Sonoran Desert singletrack: an opening 22.3-mile lap on the Shallmo, Pemberton and Escondido trails, then four 19.4-mile laps of the Cinch, Scenic, Pemberton and Shallmo trails, each run in the opposite direction to the last. The terrain is fast and runnable, which is why the race produces some of the quickest hundred-mile times in America, and the saguaro-and-granite landscape is completely exposed to the Arizona sun for the first half of the day.
Because every lap returns to headquarters, a crew sees their runner five times and the whole race happens in front of a costumed crowd. On Livebib the loop is drawn once with the runner moving along it, splits at each aid station and each lap, and an arrival estimate for the next pass through headquarters that keeps updating — which is exactly the number a pacer waiting to go out actually needs.
