Lauterbrunnen to the Schilthorn, solo or as a team

The Inferno Halbmarathon climbs from the floor of the Lauterbrunnen valley to the summit of the Schilthorn, with more than 2,000 m of climbing.

The Inferno Halbmarathon is part of the Inferno weekend in the Bernese Oberland, held from 20 to 22 August 2027, the same weekend as the Inferno Triathlon with its 5,500 m of climbing. The half marathon and the relay are on Saturday 21 August. Registration opens on 11 November 2026 at 11:11.

The race starts at Camping Jungfrau in Lauterbrunnen and finishes on the Schilthorn, and the organiser counts over 2,000 m of climbing. It is run in three sections that are also the relay legs. The first goes 7.130 km and 690 m up from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp. The second covers 7.492 km and 415 m from Grütschalp to the Höhenlücke. The third climbs 6.475 km and 1,070 m from the Höhenlücke to the Schilthorn.

Solo runners start in three blocks by expected finishing time: up to 3 h 15 at 09:30, 3 h 15 to 4 h at 09:45, and over 4 h at 10:00 together with the relay teams. In the relay, three runners each take one leg and hand over a band in the transition zones. Showers, changing rooms and the prize giving are at the Alpine Sportzentrum in Mürren.

The organiser aims both the half marathon and the relay at experienced mountain runners who arrive well prepared. The race calls for endurance and a high degree of personal responsibility, the alpine weather can be unpredictable, and suitable mountain running gear is strongly recommended.
