From the Hermannsdenkmal over the Teutoburger Wald to Bielefeld

The Hermannslauf is a 31.1 km point to point run through the Teutoburger Wald, held for the 55th time on Sunday 25 April 2027.

The start is close to the Hermannsdenkmal above Detmold, and the finish arch stands on the Sparrenburg promenade in Bielefeld, below the castle. In between the route follows forest paths and ridges of the Teutoburger Wald, with a steady rhythm of climbs and descents.

There is one distance for runners. The starts begin from 11:00 in staggered groups, and walkers set off earlier at 08:00. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Registration opens in mid January, so it is worth planning ahead. The organiser runs a bus transfer from Bielefeld to the start area.

The course suits people who already run 20 km or more comfortably and who want a long trail day without alpine terrain. Good shoes for forest paths are more useful than road racing shoes. The race is organised by the club TSVE 1890 Bielefeld.

For spectators, the organiser points to the car parks in Bielefeld's old town, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the promenade where the runners finish. The roads around the Sparrenburg are closed on race day, and a shuttle takes spectators from the Hermannsdenkmal back to Detmold station from about 11:30.
