A wild loop through Colorado’s San Juan Mountains where finishing requires crossing thirteen passes and kissing a ten-ton rock in Silverton.

The Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run is a punishing loop through the rugged San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, starting and ending in the historic mining town of Silverton. With an average elevation above 3,300 metres and over 10,000 metres of climbing, runners traverse thirteen passes over 3,600 metres and summit Handies Peak at 4,282 metres.

The course connects the mountain towns of Telluride, Ouray and Lake City before returning to Silverton, alternating direction every year. True to its miners’ heritage, there is no finish line tape: finishers must complete the loop within the strict 48-hour cutoff and kiss a ten-ton granite boulder emblazoned with a painted ram’s head to make their finish official.
