Half marathon and 10 km through Altstadt, Neustadt and Mombach

The Gutenberg Halbmarathon Mainz takes over the streets of the Rhineland-Palatinate capital on Sunday 2 May 2027, with a half marathon and a 10 km race.

The organiser describes it as a family style Meenzer event. Both races start on the Große Bleiche close to the Kurfürstliches Schloss. The 10 km sets off at 08:45 and the half marathon at 10:00, with four start blocks for the longer race based on the finish time given at registration.

On the route the organiser has published, the half marathon passes the Roman theatre, follows the Rheinstraße with views of the Rhine between kilometres 2 and 5, and goes past the Staatskanzlei, the Landtag and the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke. From kilometre 4 it heads via the Kaiser-Karl-Ring into Mombach, back through the Neustadt to a turn on the Barbarossaring, and then up into the Kaiserstraße. The last four kilometres belong to the Altstadt, past the Gutenbergplatz and the Staatstheater, with the cathedral in view between kilometres 18 and 19, before the finish at the Schloss. The finish closes after 3 hours.

The 10 km shares the first part of the course and then loops through the Kaiserstraße and the Neustadt before a final sprint along the Rhine promenade to a finish level with the Raimunditor. Both distances are road races that suit first timers as well as people chasing a time. Water is served at kilometres 5, 10, 15, 17.5 and 19.5 on the half.

For spectators, the organiser sets up music points along the route with bands and moderators, and the district of Mombach is known among participants for its party mood. The weekend starts with an expo in the Kurfürstliches Schloss on 30 April and 1 May, a pasta party on the Ernst-Ludwig-Platz and a relaxed 4 km shake out run along the Rhine on Saturday morning.
