Ten miles through the old town of Bern, past the Zytglogge and the Bundeshaus
The Grand Prix von Bern, in its 45th edition on Saturday 15 May 2027, takes people over ten miles through the old town of the Swiss capital.
The main race covers 10 miles, or 16.093 km. It passes the Bärengraben, crosses the Nydeggbrücke, passes the Zytglogge and the Rathaus, follows the Aare to the Dählhölzli and comes back past the Bundeshaus and the Münster. The organiser describes the profile as demanding, and 32 pacemakers help people find a steady pace.
Two shorter races complete the day. The Altstadt-GP over 4.7 km is slightly hilly and open to walkers as well. The Bären-GP over 1.6 km is for children and families. The organiser still marks the 2027 start times as provisional.
The 10 miles suit people who are comfortable over 15 km and want a race with real character rather than a flat time trial. The organiser's statistics keep a list of Golden Runners, some of them over 80 years old. The steepest point is the Aargauerstalden at 9 percent, and the route adds up to 204 metres of climbing.
The organiser calls the old town, which the Altstadt-GP crosses, the cauldron of atmosphere of the Grand Prix von Bern, and describes the ten miles as a running treat of the first order.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Grand Prix von Bern.
