The sea on your right, all the way

A coastline from the north of Gotland into Visby, where the organiser’s route summary comes down to one line: always the sea on your right.

Gotland Ultramarathon is run on Saturday 3 October 2026, the 13th edition and the fourth organised by Wisby Ultralöpning. The long course, about 50 kilometres and 400 metres of climb, starts at 09:00 at Hallshuk in the north of the island. Halv-GUM, about 28 kilometres and 250 metres, starts at 11:00 at the fishing harbour in Lickershamn. Both finish at Östergravar in Visby, where the finish closes at 17:30.

The ground changes all day: gravel road, shore meadow, trail, bare limestone, sand beach, shingle beach and short stretches of asphalt. From about the second kilometre the 50 km follows the Klintkustleden coastal trail to around 29 km, then the Kinnerstugan exercise trail, and for the last part orange flags down onto the beaches at Brissund and Själsö and back up onto the cliff edge. New for 2026, after the Brucebo nature reserve the course climbs onto the cliff instead of staying on the beach. The energy stations are at Svarthäll, Lickershamn, Nyhamn and Brissund, two of them unmanned, and there are no disposable cups: every runner carries a cup or bottle.

Support is allowed only at those four stations, so the people cheering drive between them and want to know when to be there. The organiser also requires every runner to carry a fully charged phone with the emergency number saved. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast; family and friends open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate for Östergravar that updates through the day. If coverage drops below the cliffs, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing. The runner decides who gets the link.
