Gauja Trail 20 K
The course is 21 kilometres with 500 metres of ascent and combines the historic part of Cēsis with the trails near the town. According to the organiser, the first and last kilometres mostly lead out of town and back in, and the middle of the race follows the Gauja river through open natural landscape. It is the shortest race of the weekend that carries UTMB World Series status, in the 20K category, and it earns one Running Stone.
The late-afternoon start puts the 20 K on course while the 100 K runners are still out on the long way in from Līgatne, and both finish on Rozu laukums. Bibs are collected at the expo in Cēsis from 6 August. Six hours for 21 km is a comfortable limit, which makes this a good first trail race for a road runner who wants to try the national park.
