Marathon du Larzac

The organiser gives 33.5 kilometres and 1,357 metres of climb for 550 runners in the short-trail category. La Salvage cannot be reached by car, not even to start: a shuttle from the Parc de la Victoire in Millau is compulsory and included in the entry. After a first loop the course comes back through La Salvage, where a refreshment point is set up; after that, aid is a light station at the farm of Mas de Bru and a full one at Le Cade, set up in what the organiser calls a very fine sheepfold.

Finishers receive a HOKA gilet, a dated medal and a Causses buffet in a traditional barn. Bibs are collected at the Salon du Trail on Thursday 15 October, from 12:00 to 19:00.

With a start nobody can drive to, family cannot see their runner off. A runner who shares their Livebib broadcast lets them watch the whole crossing instead: the position on the course, the distance covered and a finish estimate for Millau that updates as the race goes, in a browser with no account. If the phone loses signal in the Dourbie, the position is carried forward and marked as estimated.

Marathon du Larzac

The Marathon du Larzac starts at the hamlet of La Salvage, at the foot of a causse estate and an old Templar church. A small loop around the estate heads for Pierrefiche and back to La Salvage, then the course escapes down the Laumet ravine and climbs to the corniches of La Clapade.

At the Font Longue ravine, around km 15, it drops to the path along the Dourbie for 1.5 km, then climbs back onto the Larzac by an old communal path through Grand Camp, 350 metres up. From the farm of Mas de Bru it descends to Massebiau by the Roubelier ravine, climbs straight and hard onto the Causse Noir to the farm of Le Cade, 480 metres up, and runs on to the Pouncho, its corniche and its viewpoint table before the descent through the Grotte du Hibou.
