Marathon des Causses

The organiser gives 33.6 kilometres and 1,550 metres of climb for 1,000 runners in the short-trail category, and calls it a balanced course, wild and technical in places, that opens wide the door to trail running. Full aid is at Betpaumes, Lauglanou and Le Cade, and barriers are set at La Cresse, around km 13, and at Lauglanou, around km 20.

The winner takes 3,000 euros. Finishers receive a HOKA gilet, a dated medal and a Causses buffet in a traditional barn, and bibs can still be collected at the Salon du Trail on race morning, Saturday 17 October, from 09:00 to 11:00.

With a midday gun, the Marathon des Causses is run through the Saturday afternoon. Supporters waiting at the finish can follow a runner who shares their Livebib broadcast: the position on the course line, the distance run and a finish estimate that updates through the afternoon, in any browser, with no account and no app.

This distance

Marathon des Causses

The Marathon des Causses stays on the Causse Noir, above the great cliffs over the valleys, through conifer forest and across the ravines cut into the plateau. Wide tracks link the fine technical paths above the Tarn valley to the Roc Pointu and the descent to La Cresse, and the climb back by the ravine of La Cresse passes through rocky canoles.

Forest tracks lead on to Lauglanou, then the course drops onto the corniches of the Dourbie, down to Massebiau and back up a technical climb by the Rocher Troué. The tracks are sandy and stony and, the organiser warns, full of traps. The finish is a long, airy corniche with the Millau Viaduct in the background.
