Endurance Trail

The organiser gives 100.5 kilometres and 4,075 metres of climb for 1,400 runners, and asks for no qualifying races: everyone is welcome. There are only five full aid stations, at Le Rozier, Le Truel, Saint-André-de-Vézines, La Salvage and Le Cade, which the organiser says keeps the race close to the magic of trail, with water at Puech Margue, La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite, Mas de Bru and Massebiau. The first barrier is at Puech Margue, km 22.3, by 08:15; the last fall after midnight, at Massebiau (km 89.9) by 00:30 and Le Cade (km 93.9) by 01:30 on the Saturday. The late barriers have been made more accessible, and a fallback route exists at the last one.

Finishing in under 19 hours lets a runner enter the draw for a place at the 2027 Western States Endurance Run. The marking is kept especially tight in the first and last thirds so the course can be followed through the night. Every finisher receives a HOKA gilet, a dated medal and aligot at the finish, and the prize money is equal for men and women, 5,000 euros for the winner.

With a 04:00 start and barriers past one in the morning, a runner can be out for a day and most of a night. The Livebib broadcast a runner shares shows family where they are on the line between the Tarn, the Jonte and the Larzac, how far they have come and when they are likely to reach Millau. If the phone drops out of coverage in the gorges, the position is carried forward along the course and shown as estimated.

Endurance Trail

The organiser calls the Endurance Trail the pioneer of the festival’s ultras, and it takes in three causses, the Causse Noir, the Causse Méjean and the Larzac, three valleys, the Dourbie, the Jonte and the Tarn, and a string of small medieval and causse villages, Peyreleau, Le Rozier, Le Truel, Saint-André-de-Vézines, Montméjean, La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite, Pierrefiche and Mas de Bru. It opens with a 20 km crossing of the Causse Noir to warm up and spread the field.

From there it runs into the gorges of the Tarn, along the Balcon du Vertige and down to the hamlet of Le Truel in the Jonte valley, then by La Planque and up to Espaliès before dropping to the hermitage of Saint-Michel. A technical path along the clifftops above the Jonte leads to the prehistoric Champignon, the chapel of Saint-Jean-des-Balmes and Saint-André-de-Vézines for the fourth aid station. Montméjean and Roquesaltes follow, the technical descent to La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite by the Riou Sec ravine, the corniches of the Larzac, down into the Dourbie and up again at Massebiau to Le Cade, and the descent through the Grotte du Hibou. The organiser counts a high share of singletrack, including old paths reopened for the race.
