61 miles across the Yorkshire Dales fells

The Fellsman is a high level traverse of more than 60 miles over the Yorkshire Dales, from Ingleton to Threshfield, with a shorter Dart on the same weekend.

The 63rd Fellsman and the 3rd Fellsman Dart take place on 24 and 25 April 2027. Both are organised by the Keighley Scout Service Network and staffed entirely by volunteers. The Fellsman starts at 8.30am sharp from the field behind Ingleton Community Centre, with check-in from 6.00am, and both events finish at Upper Wharfedale School in Threshfield.

The Fellsman covers about 61 miles with over 11,000 ft of climb and 25 hilltop and roadside checkpoints. The route goes up Ingleborough, down to the Hill Inn and up Whernside, drops into Kingsdale and climbs over Gragareth and Great Coum to Dent, then Great Knoutberry, Redshaw, Buckden Pike and Park Rash before the last leg over the hills east of Wharfedale and down through Grassington.

The Fellsman Dart is about 30 miles with over 4,200 ft of climb and 13 checkpoints. It starts at 1pm at Redshaw checkpoint, with registration at Ingleton and a coach to the start, and follows the last 30 miles of the main route over Snaizeholme, Dodd Fell and Fleet Moss.

Much of the route crosses private land opened for the weekend only and does not follow defined footpaths, so navigation is part of the challenge. GPX files are allowed if entrants also carry a map and compass. There is a strict kit list, live tracking and cut-offs, and the roadside checkpoints serve hot food.
