E250 - UNESCO Trail

Two hundred and sixty-one kilometres and eighteen thousand metres of ascent — twice the height of Everest from sea level — through the UNESCO World Heritage region of the Jungfrau-Aletsch. The route leaves Grindelwald and works out across the Bernese Oberland for the better part of four days and three nights, over passes and along balcony paths high above the valleys, before coming back under the Eiger north face to finish where it began.

A race this long is decided by sleep, weather and the willingness to keep moving through a third night at altitude, and almost none of it happens where anyone can see it. That is exactly what live tracking is for: on Livebib the whole course is drawn as a ridgeline with the runner’s position on it, life bases and drop-bag points marked, distance covered and an estimate for the next station that keeps moving even when the runner has stopped to sleep.
