Around Slea Head on the Dingle Peninsula

The Dingle Marathon and Half Marathon start together in Dingle Town and run west around Slea Head, with views of the Blasket Islands.

The Dingle Full and Half Marathon is on Saturday 4 September 2027, and both races for 2027 are sold out. Both start together at 9am from the Marina on Strand Street in Dingle Town. The organiser notes that the start time is subject to change.

The route crosses Milltown Bridge, passes the woods at Burnham and reaches Ventry and its long beach, then continues west past Dunbeg Fort between cliffs and the Atlantic. At Fahan a stream is diverted from a ford so the road stays dry, and the course reaches Slea Head with views to South Kerry and the Blasket Islands before turning north past Coumenoole Strand to Dunquin. It is the only day of the year when traffic is taken off Slea Head.

The half marathon finishes near Dunquin outside Kruger's Pub, with free buses back to Dingle. The full marathon continues through open country to Ballyferriter and Murreagh, faces a tough climb around mile 22 and then has a long straight run back to the finish in Dingle Town. The organiser says the course is designed for runners and walkers to enjoy its scenery and rugged coastline.

The race won Half Marathon of the Year in the Running in Ireland awards from 2015 to 2018 and Marathon of the Year in 2019. Entries cannot be deferred or transferred, and participants cannot switch between the full and the half.
