Tyndrum to Fort William on the West Highland Way
The Devil o' the Highlands Footrace is a 42 mile (69 km) point to point ultramarathon along the West Highland Way from Tyndrum to Fort William.
The 2027 race starts at 06:00 on Saturday 24 April 2027 and will host the Scottish Ultra Trail Championships. Registration is on the Friday evening at the Tyndrum Inn and on race morning at the Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum, and the finish is at the Lochaber Leisure Centre in Fort William. The time limit is 12 hours.
The route has 6,500 ft (1,981 m) of ascent and is 95% trail and 5% road. It is waymarked, so no map reading is needed, and extra yellow signs mark any place where the race leaves the West Highland Way. There are 4 checkpoints, food drop bags at two of them, and kit bags are carried from start to finish. Poles are allowed only after the Bridge of Orchy checkpoint at the 7 mile point.
Places are first allocated by gender, 350 for women and 350 for men, with the option to enter as nonbinary. Every runner must carry an emergency foil blanket, a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, and a charged phone. Hot home-made soup, food and drinks and free showers wait at the finish.
Spectators are welcome at Glencoe and Kinlochleven, with no crew help before Glencoe and no support runners before Kinlochleven. Parking in Tyndrum is very limited, so the organiser runs coaches from Fort William to the start and back, which must be booked in advance.
On Livebib you can follow a participant live when they choose to share the position of the phone they carry. That position comes from the participant's own phone and is not the organiser's timing, so official results and splits come from the organiser.
