Three races through Connemara to Maam Cross

The Connemara International Marathon offers an ultra, a marathon and a half marathon on the roads of Connemara, all finishing at Maam Cross.

The 23rd Connemarathon is on Sunday 25 April 2027 in Connemara, Co. Galway. The ultra marathon starts at 9:00 at Recess, near Joyces Craft Shop on the N59, and the full marathon from Lough Inagh and the half marathon from Leenane both start at 11:00. All three finish at Maam Cross, at the grounds of Peacocke's Hotel.

The ultra is 39.3 miles and has been part of the event since 2004. Since 2023 it includes an out and back section to Rosroe Pier in place of 10 miles on the N59, plus a demanding hilly stretch. Ultra runners can leave their own drinks and food at three of six aid stations, and they pass a water station 12 times. The full and half marathon fields start from their own lines and share the finish at Maam Cross, so all three races come home to the same place.

Parking is not possible at the starts. Race buses leave Galway, Oughterard, Clifden and Delphi Resort for each start, and return buses run from Maam Cross through the afternoon. Ultra runners attend a briefing at 8:00 at Maam Cross before being bussed to Recess.

Spectator buses to the finish leave Galway, Oughterard, Clifden and Delphi Resort at 11am. The deadline for switching distance or deferring to 2028 is 13 March 2027.
