The whole length of Windermere

Chillswim Windermere End to End is an 11 mile swim along the full length of Windermere in the Lake District, from Fell Foot Park at the southern end to Waterhead near Ambleside.

The 2027 swim is on Saturday 4 September. Event headquarters is at Rydal Showground in Ambleside, and the start is at Fell Foot Park at the south end of the lake.

Swimmers start in seven waves, grouped by their expected pace per mile. The route follows the shores of the lake and passes Belle Isle on the way up to Waterhead, where the swim finishes.

Boat based feed stations with water, energy drink and jelly babies sit along the route about every mile, and swimmers keep within about 50 metres of the shore for most of the way. Wetsuits are optional, a tow float is mandatory, swimmers must be at least 17, and the slowest pace allowed is 52 minutes per mile, with cut offs at 5.5, 8 and 10 miles.

The organisers call it the longest and most iconic swim in the country. The same organiser also runs end to end swims on Coniston Water in June and Ullswater in July, and the Chillswim Triple Crown covers all three lakes. Entries for the 2027 series are open on the organiser's site.
