Coniston Water from end to end

Chillswim Coniston End to End is a 5.25 mile swim along the full length of Coniston Water in the Lake District, finishing at Monk Coniston at the northern tip of the lake.

The 2027 swim is on Saturday 19 June. Event headquarters is at John Ruskin School in Coniston, and the swim starts at the southern end of the lake and heads north.

The field starts in seven waves by expected pace per mile, and four feed boats are spread along the course. Wetsuits are optional, so swimmers can take on the lake in a wetsuit or in skins.

Coniston is the shortest of the three Chillswim End to End swims, and the organisers put it simply: you have not swum a lake until you have completed the full length of it. After the first mile swimmers keep within about 50 metres of the shore, guided by mile marker buoys. Swimmers must be at least 16, the cut off is 65 minutes per mile, and the sweep boat makes sure everyone is out of the water by 3pm.

Friends and family can follow part of the swim from the water on the National Trust steam yacht Gondola, with three sailings of about an hour that take spectators up close to cheer on their swimmers. Chillswim also runs end to end swims on Ullswater in July and Windermere in September, and entries for the 2027 series are open on its site.
