102 miles on Cheshire's trails and canals
The Chester Ultra 100 is a 102 mile ultramarathon on trails through Cheshire, from Ellesmere Port by way of Chester, the Sandstone Trail and the Bridgewater Canal.
The 2027 race has a mass start at 06:00 on Saturday 17 April 2027 from the athletics track at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Stanney Lane. Registration is on Friday 16 April from 17:30 to 21:00 and on race morning from 04:15. The cut-off is 32 hours and there are 400 places. GB Ultras organises the race.
The route passes Chester, Beeston Castle, Delamere Forest, the Sandstone Trail, Frodsham, Warrington, Helsby Hill and the Bridgewater Canal, with 1,590 m of ascent and 12 checkpoints. Drop bags are handed to GB Ultras staff at registration on race morning.
Finishers earn a belt buckle, gold for the first 100, silver for the next 100 and bronze after that, with prizes for the top three men and women. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association under UK Athletics rules and earns ITRA points and UTMB Performance Index points. GB Ultras also holds a 50 mile Chester Ultra on a separate date in February.
Dogs, apart from service dogs, are not allowed at the checkpoints or the start and finish venue. GB Ultras tracks every runner live with GB Race Tracker, so family and friends can follow progress through the night.
If a participant chooses to share the position of the phone they carry, you can follow them live on Livebib. The dot on the map comes from their own phone, not from the organiser's timing, and the official results are the organiser's.
