Chester Marathon, live.

A marathon that crosses into Wales and back

The Chester Marathon is a road marathon from the city of Chester that crosses the English-Welsh border, with a shorter Metric Marathon on the same morning.

The MBNA Chester Marathon is on Sunday 10 October 2027, organised by Active Leisure Events, with the event village on The Roodee in Chester. The marathon starts at 09:00 and the MBNA Chester Metric Marathon of 26.2 km starts at 10:00. The organiser describes the marathon as the fifth largest in the UK, and it is a qualifier for the Abbott World Marathon Majors age group championships.

The full 26.2 mile course leaves Chester and crosses the English-Welsh border before returning to the city. The terrain is road and the profile is rolling rather than flat, with 11 drink stations and a cut-off of 6 hours. The Metric Marathon runs on closed roads past Chester's landmarks, heads into Cheshire villages, joins the marathon at Churton and comes back along the River Dee to finish on Castle Drive, with a 4 hour cut-off.

The organiser calls the marathon a three-time winner of the UK's Best Marathon award and the only marathon in the UK that spans both England and Wales. The Metric Marathon is billed as the ideal stepping stone from a half marathon to the full distance.

Several city centre car parks are a short walk from the start and finish. Cash prizes go to the top five men and women, and a bonus is paid to the first man and woman to break the current course records.

On Livebib you can follow a participant live when they choose to share the position of the phone they carry. That is the participant's own position, not the organiser's timing, and official results and splits come from the organiser.
