Canada's longest running marathon

The Beneva Calgary Marathon weekend is on 29 and 30 May 2027, with four timed distances that all end at Enmax Park.

The Calgary Marathon describes itself as Canada's longest running marathon. On 10 August 1963 nineteen men lined up at Glenmore Stadium for the first edition, which was also the first marathon run in Western Canada. Today it is a spring race weekend with six events, from the marathon to a kids race and a diaper dash.

The 42.2 km marathon and the 21.1 km half marathon start at 6:45 on Sunday 30 May. The 10 km starts at 6:45 on Saturday 29 May and the 5 km at 9:15 the same morning. All of them finish at Enmax Park, where the post race festival is held. The start line for 2027 is still to be announced, and the organiser notes that routes may change from the 2026 courses.

The marathon has a 6 hour 30 minute limit and is certified by Athletics Alberta and Athletics Canada, so it can be used as a Boston qualifier. The half marathon has a 4 hour 30 minute limit and is the largest race of the weekend with over 4000 participants each year. It runs through Calgary's inner city neighbourhoods, while the 10 km skirts downtown through Inglewood and Bridgeland.

The 5 km welcomes strollers, wheelchairs and children, and many families walk it together. Spectators gather along the inner city streets and at Enmax Park for the finish.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Calgary Marathon.
