Margaret Island, the Danube bridges and Buda Castle

The Telekom Vivicittá Spring Half Marathon is a two day running weekend in Budapest, based on Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube.

The 42nd Telekom Vivicittá Spring Half Marathon takes place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April 2027. The organiser reports that nearly 38,000 people took part across the distances in 2026, from nearly 100 countries, a record for the 41st edition.

The base is Margaret Island, which the organiser describes as a clean, green and flower filled park. The half marathon on Sunday starts at 9:00 and runs past the city's landmarks, across several bridges over the Danube, with a view of Buda Castle from the river bank, along UNESCO World Heritage sites and past the Parliament, which the organiser calls Europe's third largest. It is a road course in the heart of the city and suits runners of most levels.

Sunday also has the Telekom Vivicittá 10 km and relays for teams of two and three. Saturday is for shorter runs, with the Szimpatika Midicittá over 7 km and the Minicittá over 2.4 km. The organiser points less experienced runners to these Saturday distances, and says that whatever your fitness level, there is an event to suit you.

The organiser calls the half marathon essentially a sightseeing run, with the panorama of Pest along the way, and promises a true running atmosphere around the start and finish on Margaret Island. Every runner can also choose to run for a charity from the moment they register.
