Forest and fell trails into Lillehammer
Birkebeinerløpet is a day of trail running above Lillehammer on Saturday 12 June 2027, with every distance finishing at Håkons Hall.
On Saturday 12 June 2027 the Birkebeinerløpet, the Birkebeiner Run, is held for the 29th time. The same day brings UltraBirken, Birken Fjellmaraton and HalvBirken, along with shorter youth and family runs, and the courses come together at Håkons Hall in Lillehammer.
The 21 km starts at Birkebeineren ski stadium at 525 m. The elite men go at 11:00, the elite women at 11:02 and age class waves follow from 11:05. The course uses forest paths, gravel roads and the cross country trails from the 1994 Olympics, reaches its high point of 611 m at Sjøseterlia and then drops steeply. It has 337 m of climbing and 569 m of descent, and ends with the run down from Kleivbakken to Håkons Hall.
UltraBirken, held for the 15th time, is 60 km with 1,258 m of climbing. It starts at 08:00 from Sjusjøen ski stadium, crosses Sjusjøfjellet and Lunkefjell, passes Nordseter and Pellestova and tops out at Nevefjell at 1,072 m, then joins the 21 km course about 14 km from the finish. Birken Fjellmaraton, 42 km and held for the 8th time, starts at 08:30 from Sjusjøen and turns at 1,072 m just below the summit of Nevelfjell. HalvBirken is 12 km.
The organiser calls the 21 km Norway's largest trail run, and UltraBirken a tough challenge in varied terrain for those who want to push their limits. Its cut-offs are 12:30 at Pellestova and 14:30 at Nordseter, and everyone is expected over the line by 18:00. A free shuttle bus links the finish at Håkons Hall with the start at Birkebeineren ski stadium through the day.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Birkebeinerløpet.
