A weekend of trail races in the Bieszczady

Festiwal Biegu Rzeźnika is a mountain trail weekend in Cisna, in the Bieszczady of south east Poland, built around a long race that people run in pairs.

The 13th festival runs from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 May 2027, with Cisna as its base. The heart of it is the 24th Bieg Rzeźnika on Friday 28 May, about 80 km with about 4085 m of climbing, and it is run in pairs. Buses leave Cisna at 1:45 for the start in Komańcza at 3:00, and the finish is back in Cisna near the Orlik stadium, with a limit of 17 hours.

The route opens with about 8 km of hard road to Duszatyn, then follows the red trail over Chryszczata, Przełęcz Żebrak and Wołosań before passing through Cisna and climbing the orange trail to Jasło, Okrąglik, Fereczata and Paportna, with a food point at Nowy Wietnam. Expect loose stones, roots, streams, fallen trees and mud.

Rzeźnik Ultra starts in Cisna at 1:30 on the same day, about 102 km with about 4654 m of climbing, with a drop bag in Wetlina. Maraton Rzeźnika opens the weekend on Thursday at 6:00 with about 52 km and 2250 m. On Saturday the forest railway takes Rzeźniczek participants from Cisna to Żubracze for 28 km and 1060 m, and Dycha na Jeleni Skok, 12 km, starts in Cisna at 10:20.

These are races for people used to long days in the mountains, and the mandatory kit includes a charged phone with roaming. Friends and family can wait at the finish in Cisna, where the kids races also run on Saturday morning.
