The last trail of the year, across the border and back

Bastogne-Wiltz-Bastogne is a winter trail running event between the Belgian and Luxembourg Ardennes, held at the end of December together with the Castle Trail Wiltz.

The 3rd edition is on Sunday 27 December 2026 and grows with three new distances. The headline is a new 100 km (99.2 km, 2,929 m of climbing) that leaves Bastogne at 4:00, reaches Kautenbach in Luxembourg as its furthest point and returns to Bastogne, with an 18 hour limit. The 70 km (69.5 km, 1,871 m) starts from Bastogne at 6:00, follows the 100 km route to Wiltz and heads back, and a 50 km (49.8 km, 1,349 m) and a 70 km team relay complete the long races.

In Luxembourg, the Castle Trail Wiltz offers two new loops from the Am Petz hall in Wiltz, passing Wiltz Castle after 2 km. The 30 km (29.6 km, 1,079 m) starts in waves from 11:00 and runs towards the Kautenbach area, and the 18 km (17.1 km, 562 m) starts in waves from 13:00.

The organisers describe the long courses as hilly but generally runnable, with some more technical sections, and the 30 km as a mix of climbs, descents, forest paths and technical sections. The 100 km is a test of pacing on a short winter day, while the 18 km suits anyone wanting to end the year on the trails without a full day out. All distances carry a UTMB Index.

Bastogne, the start town, is known for its place in the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944 to 1945, remembered today by many sites, monuments and museums.
