Along the harbour from Hnry Stadium
The Wellington Marathon is a flat out and back course along Wellington Harbour, and 2027 marks its 40th anniversary.
The 2027 Wellington Marathon is on Sunday 4 July. Everything starts and finishes at Hnry Stadium. The marathon walkers start at 7:00, the marathon runners at 7:30, the half marathon at 9:00 and the 10 km at 9:30. There is also a Kids Magic Mile.
The course is flat and runs out along the waterfront past Te Papa and Oriental Parade towards the Miramar Peninsula before coming back. The marathon covers it as two laps, with a cut-off at 22.2 km at 11:00.
A winter date in Wellington means the weather is part of the race. Wind off the harbour can help on one stretch and hold people back on the next, so a flexible plan is worth more than a fixed target pace.
The out and back layout makes the event easy to watch. Supporters on the waterfront see participants going both ways, and on the two lap marathon they pass the same points again. Hnry Stadium is close to the railway station, which makes getting there simple.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Wellington Marathon.
