WACHAUmarathon, live.

Along the Danube to Krems

The 27th WACHAUmarathon by Brooks takes place on Sunday 26 September 2027 and follows the Danube through the Wachau to the finish in Krems.

Every distance runs one way along the Danube and finishes in Krems. The marathon of 42.195 km starts on the B3 in Emmersdorf at the leisure centre, the half marathon of 21.0975 km near the boat landing in Spitz an der Donau, and the 11 km quarter marathon on the B3 in Achleiten. A marathon relay, a Nordic walking half marathon and the WachauJUNIORmarathon complete the programme. The race is organised by the WACHAUmarathon GmbH.

The organiser describes the course as flat, without a single hill, which makes it popular with beginners who want to reach a personal goal as well as with fast runners. The times show it. The half marathon course record of 59:47 was set in 2025, and in 2026 the women's half marathon record improved to 1:08:17.

The 2027 start times are not published yet. In 2026 the marathon and the half marathon started at 10:00 and the quarter marathon at 09:30. The road through the Wachau closes at 08:00 on race morning, so participants reach the starts by the buses, trains and, for the half marathon, boats that they book with their entry, with special trains from Vienna as well. The timing chip is built into the start number.

The course suits anyone chasing a personal best and people running their first half marathon or marathon on a fast road that is closed to traffic. Supporters who want to see the finish should head to Krems, where every distance ends.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the WACHAUmarathon.
