Course & challenge

VMX 300-8k

Short is not the same as easy here; the organiser rates VMX 300 “hard”. The single lap starts straight up the Vångabacken ski slope and then follows winding trails through the forest, past quiet woodland lakes and deep quarries, before it drops back to the finish at the arena. The race table gives 360 metres of climbing on 8 km, the same lap the 16 and 40 km runners repeat.

The maximum time is 2 hours 50 minutes, generous for the distance, which makes this the natural first trail race for someone curious about the longer laps. Drinks are on the course and at the finish, trail shoes are recommended, and the VMX Kids race goes off from the same arena at 12:15, so a whole family can race the same afternoon. Every finisher receives a medal, and the prize-giving is at about 15:00 on the main stage.

This page covers the 2026 edition. Even one lap disappears into the woods for most of its length, out of sight of the arena. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their broadcast, and family open it in a browser to see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates on the way round. Where the signal fades among the trees, the position is carried forward and marked as estimated rather than frozen.
