Vasaloppet’s ninety kilometres, in summer

The winter ski track from Sälen to Mora, run on foot in August: forest road, bog boardwalk and the same seven checkpoints the skiers pass.

Ultravasan 90 starts in Berga by in Sälen, where Vasaloppet starts, and finishes under the classic portal in Mora: 92 kilometres and 867 metres of climbing. In 2026 it was run on Saturday 15 August with a single mass start at 05:00 and five start zones by expected finish time. The organiser counted 2,317 entries, a record, and calls it the biggest ultra race in the Nordic region; it was also the Swedish trail running championship. Ultravasan 45 started the same day at 10:00 from Oxberg. The next edition is on 21 August 2027.

The first three kilometres climb to the highest point of the Vasaloppet track. After Smågan comes ten kilometres of winding trail and boardwalk over bogs, block-strewn descents towards Risberg, the lakes at Evertsberg, and then the harder climbs, Lundbäcksbacken among them, up to Oxberg. In 2026 the course was back on its regular line between Evertsberg and Oxberg after several years of detours for roadworks. From Hökberg the forest roads flatten out to Eldris, Mora ski stadium and the river crossing to the finish straight.

With checkpoints nine to fifteen kilometres apart and cut-offs at the last three, supporters mostly want to know one thing: when to be where. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast; family open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate for Mora that updates through the day. Where the phone loses signal in the forest, the position is carried forward and marked as estimated.
