An afternoon half marathon through the old city

The race starts at half past three in the afternoon, on a bridge, with the Royal Palace on one side.

adidas Stockholm Halvmarathon is Sweden’s largest capital half marathon, and it does something no other race of its size does: it starts in the afternoon. The first group leaves Strömbron opposite the Royal Palace at 15:30, and the groups behind it are released at five-minute intervals through the rest of the hour. The course runs Norrmalm, Vasastan, Kungsholmen, Södermalm and Gamla stan — a lap of the water at the centre of the city, over half a dozen bridges.

A staggered start means the finish times of two people who left together can be twenty minutes apart, and the crowd on Strömbron has no way of knowing which group anyone is in.
