The old road along Sørfjorden

A flat half marathon east of Bergen, run out and back on the old road between Garnes and Risnes, on the route of the Norwegian championships in 1989 and 1992.

Sørfjorden Halvmaraton starts at 10:30 on Saturday 3 October 2026 on Fylkesveien by Tunesvegen 2 in Garnes, Arna, and finishes at Garnes Gårdsbarnehage, close to the start. The organiser, IL Fri, describes a course measured in 2024, in flat terrain, with a marker at every kilometre. Runners who expect to need more than two hours may take the early start at 10:00 by lining up at the start line. The field is capped at 1,000.

The course follows the old road between Garnes and Risnes, a little before Trengereid, along the shore of Sørfjorden, and turns at Risnes. The organiser warns of a few tight bends. Water and squash are served at 4.5 and 8.5 km, water, squash and bananas at 12.5 and 16 km, and more at the finish. The course records belong to Senay Fissehatsion, 1:04:32 in 2025, and Bethine Riise Carlsen, 1:16:10 in 2026.

An out-and-back course has one place where everything is decided: the turn at Risnes. Family waiting in Garnes can follow it on a Livebib broadcast that the runner shares.
