Course & challenge

SaintéLyon Relais 2

The organiser calls it a long-distance relay “without logistical constraints”: transport between the legs is handled entirely by the organisation. The line is the main race’s, about 80 km over the Monts du Lyonnais, with the same five aid stations — Saint-Christo-en-Jarez (km 17), Sainte-Catherine (km 32), Le Camp-Saint-Genou (km 46, drinks), Soucieu-en-Jarrest (km 60) and Chaponost (km 67).

The cut-offs are the solo runners’ too: 04:00 at km 17, 07:00 at km 32, 09:30 at km 46, 12:00 at km 60, 13:30 at km 67 and 16:00 in Lyon. Where the changeover happens and how long each leg is have not been published yet, and nor has the profile. The team must be complete; a runner who withdraws without a replacement cancels the whole entry.

Two runners means one running in the dark and one waiting, usually cold, at the changeover. With the Livebib link the waiting runner sees where their teammate is on the line and an estimated arrival that updates during the leg. If the phone drops out in the woods, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, so the clock at the changeover stays roughly right.
