Oslo Maraton
The 2026 marathon was sold out. It went off in three waves between 09:00 and 09:10, each runner placed by expected finishing time, and it was open from age 18. The time limit was six hours. Bags were left in the courtyard of the city hall on Fridtjof Nansens plass, right by the start.
The course is the half-marathon loop run twice, and the organiser gives about 350 metres of ascent for the full distance. Drinks with sports drink and water come roughly every five kilometres, with bananas and cola at the marathon station. Marathon runners finish at Rådhusplassen on the same square where the half marathon gathers for its 13:00 start, so the finish area fills up through the late morning.
For family on the pavement, two laps mean two chances and twice the risk of choosing the wrong one. A runner who shares a Livebib link lets them see, in a browser and without an app or account, where the runner is on the loop, how far they have come and an updating finish estimate for Rådhusplassen. Where the city blocks scatter the GPS fix, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated. The runner decides who gets the link.
