Oh Meu Deus 100M

The organiser calls this race “Along the Transhumance Paths”. It crosses the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, which it describes as a UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve, on old Roman roads, shepherds’ routes and mountain trails, past mountain villages, quartzite crags, deep valleys and agricultural terraces. Around the middle of the race comes the climb to Torre, the highest point of mainland Portugal, followed by a technical descent through the glacial valley of Loriga, and the final stretch leads down through valleys and villages to Seia. The start place is still to be defined.

Published ascent is 8,900 m and descent 8,399 m. With an 18:00 start and 44 hours allowed, the limit falls at 14:00 on Sunday, two nights later. Finishers who make it inside 34 hours may take on the optional Viriato extension: a further 40 km with its own 10-hour limit, open only to 100M entrants. Aid stations carry drinks, hot broth and solid food, and the life bases serve soup and a hot meal.

Two nights in the mountains is a long time to wait at home. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast, opened in a browser with no account or app: position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate for Seia that updates as the race goes. In the gorge and the deep valleys the phone will lose signal; the position is then carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, never as measured.
