Course & challenge

Montane Winter Spine Sprint South

Seventy-four kilometres of the southern Pennine Way — the first day of the full Spine, run as its own race. It takes in Jacob’s Ladder, the Kinder plateau, the peat groughs of Bleaklow and Black Hill, and the crossing of the moors above the M62 before dropping into the Calder valley at Hebden Bridge.

It is the Spine’s entry point, and the shortest way to find out what a January night on Kinder actually feels like. Most of the field runs into darkness within a few hours of the gun. This page belongs to the 2027 running of the Sprint South. On Livebib, friends and family follow the runner on the real course line with a live position, checkpoint splits and an arrival estimate for Hebden Bridge that updates with the pace.
