Montane Winter Spine Challenger South
A hundred and seventy-four kilometres of the southern Pennine Way, from Edale to Hardraw in the Yorkshire Dales. It opens with Jacob’s Ladder onto Kinder Scout, crosses the peat of Bleaklow and Black Hill, works through the reservoirs and moors of West Yorkshire, and climbs over Pen-y-ghent before the drop into Horton and the run north to Hardraw.
Sixty hours is the limit, so almost everyone spends two nights out and many spend both of them on featureless moorland in the dark. This page is the 2027 edition of the Challenger South, with that year’s start and course. On Livebib, supporters follow the runner’s live position on the real line, see checkpoint splits as they land, and get an arrival estimate for Hardraw rather than a last-known-position hours old.
