A running weekend on the Wörthersee

Kärnten Läuft fills the weekend of 27 to 29 August 2027 on the Wörthersee, with the Kleine Zeitung Wörthersee Halbmarathon on Sunday as its main race.

The base is the Running City at the Metnitzstrand in Klagenfurt, next to the Wörthersee lido, where you collect your start number, visit the sports expo and finish. In 2026 Kärnten Läuft celebrated 25 years with 10,000 runners from 69 nations, and 2027 brings the 26th edition of the half marathon.

The half marathon starts on Sunday 29 August at 08:45 on the Seecorso in Velden, in front of the Schlosshotel, and follows the lake shore for 21.097 km to the Running City in Klagenfurt. The field is limited to 5,000. The AK Viertelmarathon of 10.55 km starts at 07:45 on the lake promenade in Pörtschach and finishes in the same place. For safety reasons wheelchairs, handbikes, prams and dogs are not allowed on these two courses.

The weekend opens on Friday 27 August at 19:00 with the Wiener Städtische Wörthersee Night Run, a flat and mostly shaded 4.32 km loop through the Europapark, run alone or as a team of three. On Saturday 28 August at 19:00 the Raiffeisen Frauenlauf covers 5 km from the Running City. Children's runs, a dog run and walks complete the programme. Anyone who also runs the half marathon at the Graz Marathon on 10 October 2027 can enter both as the Area Süd Marathon, two halves that add up to 42.2 km.

Your start number is a free ticket on the ÖBB train to the starts, and the ride to Velden takes about 17 minutes. A bag service takes your clothes from the start to the finish. The Lakeside car park near the Südring motorway exit is a few minutes' walk from the Running City.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Kärnten Läuft.
