Itämeri Maraton 10K (quarter marathon)

The 10K starts together with the half marathon at 13:00 from Keskuskoulu, Halmstadinkatu 2, and finishes at the same school. It does not simply cut the long loop short: it follows its own line marked on the road, which on the organiser’s map runs partly on the blue marathon and half-marathon route. Kilometre signs mark the distance and marshals hold traffic at the crossings.

The aid stations offer the same menu as on the longer races: water, juice, an orange sports drink, raisins, bananas and gherkins. The organiser gives the 10K the same five-and-a-half-hour limit as the half marathon, so the distance is open to walkers as much as to runners. Dressing rooms, showers and the school café are at the start, and bibs can be collected on Friday evening or on Saturday until 12:00.

For a short race the finish estimate is the useful number: the family at the school sees when to walk to the line. The runner shares their own Livebib link, which opens in a browser without an account or an app, showing the position on the course line, the distance covered and an estimate that updates as the kilometres pass. It is marked as an estimate, and the dot keeps moving along the course, marked estimated, if the phone loses signal.
