HIROSHIMA 50K

The 50K takes in the mountains that overlook Hiroshima from the north-east. It leaves along the Ota River on riverside paths, past suburban homes, rice fields and farming hamlets, then climbs onto forested ridges with views over Hiroshima Bay and the Seto Inland Sea, and some eye-wateringly steep descents. It shares the opening stretch with the 100K but leaves out that race’s highest peaks. The organiser singles out the stretch from AS2 Kamifukawa to Mt. Ushita as the place where the race can still be lost, and Kamifukawa as the place to refuel well. The last kilometres run back along the river, past the A-bomb Dome, to the finish at Hiroshima Gate Park.

The limit of 13 hours 30 minutes puts the final finish at 21:30, while the organiser expects the first runner after about five hours. The top three men and women earn a place in OCC at the UTMB Final.
