Napier waterfront, Clive and a winery finish

The Runaway Hawke's Bay Marathon is an autumn road and trail race that ends at a winery on New Zealand's east coast.

The Runaway Hawke's Bay Marathon is on Saturday 15 May 2027. All three distances finish at Elephant Hill Estate & Winery, where the organiser holds a food and wine festival at the finish line. The event belongs to the Runaway series, alongside races in Queenstown, Sydney, Noosa and Auckland.

The marathon starts at 8:20 from Anderson Park in Greenmeadows, Napier. The course is flat, about half on smooth, hard packed limestone Hawke's Bay Trails and half on sealed roads and paths. It runs around Park Island and the Ahuriri Estuary, through Westshore and the Port of Napier, down the Napier coastline past Pania of the Reef, the National Aquarium and the Spirit of Napier, through the Waitangi Estuary at Clive and along the coast towards Haumoana, with views to Cape Kidnappers. The course closes at 16:00.

The half marathon starts at 8:00 from Marine Parade in Napier, and the 10 km starts at 7:30 from Evers-Swindell Reserve in Clive. The minimum age is 18 for the marathon and 16 for the half marathon, and the 10 km is open from age 10, with children under 13 accompanied by an adult. The flat profile and mixed surface suit first time marathoners as well as people who prefer a softer trail underfoot.

Spectators get live entertainment and spectator spots along the way, and every distance ends at Elephant Hill, so that is where friends and family meet. The three start lines are spread across Napier and Clive, and the organiser publishes a start map for each one.
