110 km around Austria's highest mountain

The Grossglockner Ultra-Trail circles the Grossglockner from Kaprun, crossing high passes between Salzburg and East Tyrol.

The Grossglockner Ultra-Trail runs from 22 to 25 July 2027, with Kaprun and the GGUT Arena at Salzburger Platz as its base. It is organised by Zell am See-Kaprun Tourismus together with SALTY Trailrunning.

The main race is 110 km with 6,500 m of climbing. It starts in Kaprun on Friday 23 July at 21:30, so the race begins at night. The route crosses the Kapruner Törl at 2,639 m, the Kalser Tauern, the Untere Pfandlscharte at 2,663 m and the Stockerscharte at 2,465 m, past the Berghotel Rudolfshütte, the Kalser Tauernhaus, the Glorer Hütte at 2,642 m, the Salmhütte, the Lucknerhaus, the Glocknerhaus and the Trauneralm. The maximum time is 29 hours.

The Osttirol Trail is 84 km with 5,000 m, starting at Enzingerboden on Saturday 24 July at 04:30. The Grossglockner Trail leaves Kals am Großglockner at 07:30 the same day for 57 km and 3,500 m to Kaprun. On Friday 23 July the Weißsee Glacier World Trail goes 37 km with 1,500 m from Enzingerboden at 08:00, and the Kaprun Scenic Trail is a 16 km loop with 1,000 m from Kaprun at 08:30. Children can run the Mini GGUT in Kals and the Kids Trail in Kaprun.

The organiser calls the GGUT one of the toughest ultras and recommends several finished mountain races over 70 km before entering, with confidence in high alpine terrain essential. The 16 km Kaprun Scenic Trail is described as a good introduction to alpine trail running, mostly on well kept hiking trails but still a real challenge with 1,000 m of ascent. Every course finishes in Kaprun.
