Six miles up, then downhill to Glasgow Green

Two road races through Glasgow on one Sunday morning, both starting on St Vincent Street and both finishing on Glasgow Green.

The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run was held on Sunday 4 October 2026, organised by The Great Run Company. The 10K went first: elite wheelchair athletes at 08:26, the fast-paced and purple wave at 08:30, green at 08:42 and pink at 09:03. The half marathon followed from two start areas, with the fast-paced and purple wave at 10:10, green at 10:22 and pink at 10:43 from Start A, then red at 11:40, yellow at 11:52 and blue at 12:13 from Start B. The next edition is announced for 3 October 2027.

The two courses tell the city differently. The half heads along St Vincent Street and Finnieston Street, crosses the Clyde and runs out along Paisley Road West to Bellahouston and into Pollok Country Park for about three and a half miles of parkland, then back along Paisley Road West, over the Clyde again and along the river through the McLennan Arch onto Glasgow Green. The organiser describes miles 2 to 8 as gently uphill, hardest between miles 7 and 8, and mostly downhill after that. The 10K skips the park, climbs to 1 km, drops to 3 km, and crosses four bridges on a flat, all-tarmac finish along the river.

With nearly four hours between the first 10K wave and the last half-marathon wave, the people waiting on Glasgow Green need to know which runner is where, not just when a wave left.
