Le Zembrocal Trail

A hundred and sixty kilometres and 8,380 metres of ascent, handed from runner to runner across the island. Zembrocal is a Réunionnais word for a dish of mixed leftovers, and the race is named for the same idea — a team of different strengths making one crossing between them. The legs cover the same brutal ground as the individual races, through the cirques and over the high plains, and the whole team finishes together at the Stade de La Redoute in Saint-Denis.

A relay is the hardest thing in the world to follow from the outside, because the person you care about is only running for part of it and nobody knows exactly when. On Livebib the course is drawn once and the team’s position moves along it, with distance covered and an arrival estimate for the next handover point — which is the piece of information every waiting team-mate actually needs.
