Le Métis Trail

Fifty-four kilometres and 2,674 metres of ascent — the shortest of the Grand Raid’s five races and the one that opens the event to runners who are not yet ready for a night in the cirques. The course climbs out of Saint-Paul into the hills above the west coast and works north to the Stade de La Redoute, arriving on the same track and through the same crowd as the Diagonale.

Because it is the short race, it also has the busiest finish: the Métis field comes in while the hundred-milers are still out on the island, so the stadium is full when they arrive.
